When the Dot NET generic Top-Level Domain was initially started in 1985, together with the first domains on the web, it was intended to be used by Internet Service Providers or infrastructure organizations. Because of the fact that there were no particular regulations about the usage of the top-level extension, though, dot NET domains were acquired and used for various purposes and by a large number of people. This TLD represents a wonderful alternative to dot COM, notably if the necessary domain with the latter domain extension is not free for registration.
